Experience the Thrill of the Chemerong–Berembun–Langsir Trail

Nestled deep within the lush rainforests of Terengganu, Chemerong Forest Reserve is home to one of Malaysia’s most thrilling jungle adventures, the legendary Chemerong–Berembun–Langsir (CBL) Trail. Revered among seasoned hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, this challenging expedition offers an unforgettable journey through pristine wilderness, towering waterfalls, ancient rainforest landscapes, and rugged mountain terrain.

Stretching approximately 27 kilometres, the CBL Trail begins at Chemerong Tropical Forest and leads adventurers deep into the heart of Terengganu’s untouched natural beauty. After an estimated two-hour trek, hikers are rewarded with the breathtaking sight of Chemerong Waterfall — one of the tallest waterfalls in Malaysia. Cascading dramatically from a height of 1,214 feet (370 metres), the waterfall’s powerful flow crashing against massive rock formations creates a truly awe-inspiring spectacle.

Many hikers choose to experience the trail as a three-day, two-night expedition, allowing ample time to fully immerse themselves in the reserve’s remarkable natural surroundings. Along the route, adventurers can conquer steep mountain ascents, unwind at the serene Jeram Lesung Pool, enjoy a refreshing dip in natural stream pools often nicknamed a “fish spa,” and discover the forest’s rich biodiversity.

The trail also features several fascinating natural landmarks, including gigantic Chengal trees believed to be centuries old, mysterious hollow tree formations, crystal-clear rivers, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking endless rainforest canopies.
Beyond its physical challenge, the CBL Trail offers a rare opportunity to reconnect with nature in one of Peninsular Malaysia’s most untouched rainforest ecosystems. The experience is both demanding and deeply rewarding; a true test of endurance, resilience, and appreciation for the outdoors.

Trail Difficulty & Preparation

The CBL Trail is highly challenging and not recommended for beginners. Hikers are strongly advised to have prior trekking experience, good physical fitness, and the ability to endure long hours of hiking across uneven and steep terrain.

Experienced hikers generally recommend having completed at least 2,000 metres of cumulative elevation hiking before attempting the route.

Proper hiking gear, sufficient water supply, camping essentials, and weather-appropriate clothing are crucial for a safe and comfortable journey

Best Time to Visit

The ideal period to explore the CBL Trail is between May and July, when weather conditions are generally more favourable for trekking.

The trail is closed during the monsoon season, typically from late October to mid-March, due to heavy rainfall, slippery terrain, and safety concerns.
