Across the channel in George Town, the Merdeka spirit takes on a different character. During National Month, the UNESCO World Heritage city is dressed in the colours of the Jalur Gemilang, adding a patriotic touch to its historic shophouses, colonial-era landmarks and multicultural neighbourhoods. In 2025, National Month activities also included a patriotic convoy through George Town, bringing the celebrations into the heart of the city.
In 2025, the celebrations also reached the streets through a patriotic convoy involving 15 vehicles representing state and federal agencies. Setting off from the Caring Society Complex along Jalan Utama, the convoy travelled through areas including Penang Road and Chowrasta Road before concluding at Penang Hill, bringing the National Month atmosphere into different parts of the city.
