As Malaysia’s oldest zoo, Zoo Taiping & Night Safari offers one of the country’s most immersive wildlife experiences — set within the natural greenery and serene lakes that surround the famous Taiping Lake Gardens. Wander through five key exhibits — the Malaysian Rainforest Experience, Lowland Forest, Riverine Forest, African Savanna, and the Elephants of the Perak River — and get close-up views of majestic creatures like Malayan tigers, African lions, rhinos, giraffes, orangutans, hippos, and more. A 2.5-kilometre walking trail weaves through these habitats, offering a relaxed, scenic journey through the zoo’s lush surroundings.
When night falls, the experience transforms completely. Taiping’s Night Safari, launched in 2003 as Malaysia’s first, invites visitors to explore the zoo after dark. Begin with a complimentary tram ride to observe the animals under special moonlight-style lighting, followed by free roaming time to revisit your favourite exhibits. This is the perfect time to spot nocturnal animals — from active predators to curious creatures wandering about — and to soak in the unique atmosphere filled with natural calls, rustles, and distant roars.
Some friendly birds, like the grey-crowned crane, even stroll freely along the paths, adding a delightful surprise to the night experience.
