Chemerong Forest Reserve

HUTAN LIPUR CHEMERONG – TERENGGANU

Experienced trekkers and nature enthusiasts should not miss the exhilarating Chemerong–Berembun–Langsir (CBL) Trail, located within Chemerong Forest Reserve in Hulu Dungun, Terengganu. Renowned as one of Malaysia’s most challenging and rewarding jungle treks, this route promises raw wilderness, dramatic landscapes, and unforgettable natural encounters.

The 27-kilometre trail begins at Chemerong Tropical Forest. A hike of approximately two hours leads to the first checkpoint — Chemerong Waterfall. Cascading from a height of 1,214 feet (370 metres), the powerful rush of water against towering rocks creates a breathtaking sight that makes the journey worthwhile.

Many hikers choose to extend the adventure into a three-day, two-night expedition, allowing time to fully experience the trail’s highlights. Activities include climbing steep mountain sections, relaxing at Jeram Lesung Pool, swimming in a natural “fish spa,” and exploring the forest’s rich biodiversity.

Along the way, hikers encounter remarkable natural features such as one of the largest Chengal trees in the area and mysterious hollow trees unique to the reserve.

CBL Trail landscape

The CBL trail is not suitable for beginners. Hikers are advised to have at least 2,000 metres of prior hiking experience and a good level of fitness before attempting this demanding trek.
