Just 45 minutes by speedboat from Langkawi, Pulau Payar Marine Park is one of Malaysia’s oldest and most untouched marine sanctuaries. Made up of four uninhabited islands — Pulau Payar, Pulau Kaca, Pulau Lembu, and Pulau Segantang — it offers a peaceful, pristine setting perfect for snorkelling, diving, and enjoying nature.
The clear waters here are home to rare coral species such as Tubastrea Micrantha and Antipathes, along with a colourful array of marine life including barracudas, clownfish, horse-eyed jacks, and black-tipped reef sharks. One of the park’s highlights is the Coral Garden, a secluded spot known for its vibrant coral formations and excellent underwater visibility. Those who prefer to stay dry can still enjoy the underwater world through a viewing area on the floating platform.
Beyond snorkelling and diving, visitors can swim in calm sheltered waters, watch baby sharks being fed from a safe distance, or explore short hiking trails on the island. Facilities like picnic tables, gazebos, BBQ pits, and restrooms make it an easy and enjoyable family day trip.
As a protected marine conservation area, the park practices strict eco-guidelines. Visitors are encouraged not to touch or remove corals and shells, avoid fishing, and keep a respectful distance from marine animals.
Getting there is simple — boats depart from Kuah Jetty in Langkawi, with the journey taking around 45 minutes. With its rich marine life and serene natural beauty, Pulau Payar Marine Park offers a refreshing escape and an unforgettable glimpse into Malaysia’s underwater world.
