More Than a Day as a Tiger: The Legacy of Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan of Mysore
This landmark exhibition presents an extraordinary collection of artefacts from one of India’s most remarkable dynasties. Between 1761 and 1799, Haider Ali and his son Tipu Sultan ruled Mysore and stood as the strongest resistance against British expansion in India. Known as the “Tiger of Mysore,” Tipu Sultan’s courage, intellect, and innovations — from military technology to economic reforms — defined his short but influential reign. Their unmatched craftsmanship, superior weaponry, and bold defiance continue to captivate historians and collectors alike.
Featuring rare objects of royal authority, weapons, and personal treasures, More Than a Day as a Tiger explores the enduring legacy of these two visionary rulers. The exhibition also highlights IAMM’s exceptional collection of Mysorean artefacts — the most significant outside the United Kingdom — and invites visitors to rediscover the spirit of resistance, artistry, and ambition that shaped an era. The exhibition is open from 6 August 2025 to 29 March 2026 at Special Gallery 2, Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.
