Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) is proud to present the upcoming special exhibition “Busana: Traditional Costumes of the Malay World”, opening on 12 December 2025 and running until 12 April 2026 in Special Gallery 1. Highlighting the museum’s commitment to preserving the rich cultural legacy of the Malay world — a vast historical sphere encompassing present-day Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, southern Thailand and the Philippines — this landmark exhibition showcases the museum’s renowned textile collection through an immersive exploration of traditional Malay attire, its aesthetics, and its deep cultural roots.
In conjunction with this exhibition, the Education Department is introducing an extensive line-up of specially curated programmes designed to enrich visitors’ experience and deepen their understanding of Malay heritage. Running monthly throughout the exhibition period, these programmes include expert talks, hands-on workshops, cultural demonstrations, and dedicated children’s activities. Highlights include the Batik Selendang WorkshopBusana-in-Colour Drop-In Art ActivityBaju Kurung WorkshopMalay Natural Dyes TalkSulaman Demonstration, as well as the highly anticipated Curator Gallery Talk offering behind-the-scenes insights into the making of Busana.
This comprehensive series aims not only to attract visitors to the museum, but also to provide meaningful, educational encounters that celebrate craftsmanship, history, and the living traditions of Malay dress.
